Edgar Jessup was a legendary pre-WWII road racer. The story goes that one day the brakes failed whilst racing his Spagthorpe Lightning on the Isle of Man; so Edgar slowed down by putting his feet on the road, thus burning away the soles of his boots. Subsequently, he had to wear plimsoles for the rest of his life. He's still alive and lives on Snaefell mountain. |
