Founded in Bielefeld in 1930 by Carl Buschkamp who had previously had interests in Dusseldorf, the Buschkamp motorcycles were fitted with JLO engines of 98cc to 118cc and produced Volksmotorrad as well as more sophisticated machines until 1939.
At war's end they resumed production, initially with machines similar to the pre-war models and finally, in 1953, machines with Sachs engines, after which motorcycle manufacturing ceased that same year.
Erich Uthoff, nephew of the company founder, joined the company in 1950 and assumed management in 1960. By 1970 his son Egon Uthoff was manager, and in 1980 Egon's son Jürgen began working with Buschkamp. Jürgen became manager in the year 2000.
