A Brief History of the Italian Marque

MC (Moto Colombo) moto d'epoca

The well-known rider Mario Colombo of Gorla Minore constructed two or three motorcycles in the early thirties, using the fork and frame from FIT of Milan, Baruffaldi brakes and other commercially available parts and accessories, powered by 500 cc Mercury engines possibly of British origin.

It is believed that two MC motorcycles with 250cc engines were also constructed..

The machines are similar in appearance to the British Sunbeam, a motorcycle on which Mario Colombo had competed and achieved many wins, but were completely black with a silver pinstripe on the tank, whereas the Sunbeam had gold pinstriping.

There are two Moto Colombo machines known to exist, a 500 and a 250, both never finished and yet to be assembled.

Note: There are several other marques using the Colombo name - see Disambiguation
