H. Miller and Co

of Miller Street, Birmingham

  • 1869 Company founded.
  • 1896 Public company. The company was registered on 30 May, to take over the business of firm of the same name, manufacturers of cycle lamps. The became well-known for their acetylene lamps.
  • 1920 October. Exhibited at the Commercial Motor Exhibition at Olympia with electrical lighting equipment for commercial vehicles.
  • 1961 Manufacturers of cycle and motor cycle electrical equipment.

    Postwar production included electrical components for a wide range of British machines including Velocette, supplying dynamo and lighting sets, coil ignition, flywheel magnetos and a wide range of switches. Examples of their catalogues may be viewed here: Miller Electrics.

    In the 1950s and 60s the H Miller company had a branch in Hazebrouck, in NE France, home to the famed manufacturer Lucer.
