Australian rider Andy Caldecott died when he crashed his KTM halfway through the ninth stage of the Dakar Rally. Caldecott, born in Keith, South Australia, had four consecutive wins in the Australian Safari Rally (2000-2003) and had competed in the Dakar Rally in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
