Anthony Gobert born this day, Greenacre NSW.
Nicknamed The Go Show, he was a rider of immense promise and talent who had his career derailed by a personal struggle with drug abuse. Winning the final leg of the 1994 season at Phillip Island, he became the youngest ever World Superbike race winner at the age of 19. Died 17th Jan 2014.

Steve McLaughlin wins first AMA Superbike Championship Series race at Daytona Speedway on a BMW R90S. His father John was a leading desert racer in Southern California. Both men are saluted in the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

Jimmy Carter's sister, Gloria Carter Spann, died on this day. She and her husband were greatly respected in the motorcycle touring world. Her tombstone reads, "She rides in Harley Heaven."
