Beatrice Shilling born in Hampshire, UK. She earned a Gold Star for lapping Brooklands at 106mph. A talented engineer, during WWII she invented a device which substantially improved the performance of Merlin engines fitted to Spitfires and Hurricanes during the Battle of Britain.
