Erwin Baker born Dearborn County, Indiana. Baker made 143 cross-country motorcycle speed runs totaling some 550,000 miles.
The first motorcycle race in Victoria was held at Sandown Park on this day. Charles Mayman won it. He died racing a Beauchamp on Boxing Day 1904.
Freddie Williams born Port Talbot, Wales. He rode with the Wembley Lions for 10 years, becoming the first British rider to win two Speedway World titles, in 1950 and 1953.
