The first Isle of Man TT is held. The singles class was won by Charlie Collier on a Matchless and the twin-cylinder class by Rem Fowler on a Norton.

Iván Palazzese dies at Hockenheimring during the German Grand Prix. He had been the youngest rider to stand on the podium when, at 15 years of age, he took 3rd place behind Ángel Nieto and Anton Mang at the 1977 125cc Venezuelan Grand Prix.
