Gottlieb Daimler and his colleague Wilhelm Maybach developed was the first functional road vehicle with a combustion engine. A patent application was lodged 29 August 1885. The Daimler Reitwagen is widely believed to be the first motorcycle; however it was preceded by Edward Butler who presented plans for his tricycle in 1884.

Jorge Martínez born in Valencia, Spain. Martínez became the 80cc World Champion in 1986, 1987 and 1988 riding for Derbi. In 1988 he also took the 125cc title.
