J. Graham Oates arrived in Calgary, Alberta after a trip across Canada. The event made front-page news.
Archibald Montgomery Low died this day. "Archie" Low developed the first powered drone aircraft. He was an English consulting engineer, research physicist and inventor, and author of more than 40 books. His four-cylinder two-stroke motorcycle was truly a work of genius.
Ernst Degner, the MZ engineer and rider, defected to the West after retiring from the 125cc Swedish Grand Prix at Kristianstad. He had arranged for his wife and family to escape a few days earlier, and they re-united in West Germany. He joined Suzuki who used his knowledge to great effect.
