Hello there from Canada! I recently aquired an old Garelli moped from my neighbour. The bike came from England and has a registration tag on it dating back from 1971! I’m trying to get it road worthy and have ordered some parts for it that I hope will get it running! The serial number is 1050169. Above that is stamped GARELLI – 561 and below that is stamped IGM 1109 OM. Any help on what I have and possible the year would be great as I have not seen another one like it anywhere on the internet!
thanks for posting those pictures! The engine is a vertical single speed with a steel cylinder and what I would call an oval head. The engine was apart in a box when i got the bike and have ordered what I believe are the correct piston and ring for the engine. The front tire exploded when I tried to fill it but the dimension 19 x 2.0. They are what I think must be the original pirelli tires.
I’ve been unable to find a match for a Garelli 501, and Garelli Garellinos all appear to be much later. The style of the bike leads me to believe it’s from the late 50s or early 60s. Could not find a match for it on Moped Army but would be worth another browse: http://www.mopedarmy.com/photos/brand/18/
Yes, I’ve looked there. Some bike are very close in some aspects but not others. It seems Garelli put bikes together using pieces from this model and pieces from that model to create different models! By stating 501 did you mean 561? Or am I missing something?
