Erwin Tragatsch (Born 20 February 1916 in Zwittau; died 6th December 1984 in Bielefeld). Author of several books, Tragatsch became the best known of all motorcycle historians.

Hunter S. Thompson dies in Woody Creek, Colorado, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Thompson was a keen motorcyclist whose mounts had included BSA A65 Lightning, Triumph T120 Bonneville, Ducati 900 Supersport, 1976 Penton 175 Enduro, a variety of Honda 750 Fours and an HD Softail.
