"Moto" is French for motorcycle; "bécane" is slang for "bike". The firm became the popular manufacturer of motorcycles in France.

Roy Orbison rode Dave Bickers' works CZ motocrosser for a lap of Hawkstone Park. He fell and broke an ankle, and later that evening appeared at the London Palladium with his foot in a plaster cast.

Philip Conrad Vincent dies in Ashford, Middlesex.
Vincent motorcycles were built in Stevenage from 1928 to 1955 and are regarded as some of the finest ever made.
