Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin was born this day. He owned a 1929 Sunbeam 500cc Model 9.
Production begins on the 1972 Triumph TR6 in Meriden. Billed as the sibling of the Bonneville oil-in-frame model introduced a year earlier, it was not a great success. Production ceased on May 17th, 1972.
George Oates and John Molyneux, both from the Isle of Man, die in a sidecar accident during the the Ulster Grand Prix in Northern Ireland.
