Matchless G45 1958

Matchless G45

Introduced at the Manx Grand Prix in 1951, the Matchless G45 500cc vertical twin was available as a production model from 1953 to 1957. Fewer than 100 machines were built, perhaps only 80.

The machine was composed of an AJS 7R rolling chassis with a modified Matchless G9 engine which was fitted with an alloy barrel and well-ported cylinder head with finned exhaust rocker boxes.

A G45 won the 1952 Senior IOM Grand Prix, and at the 1953 Senior TT eleven G45s started. The following year 14 started.

In 1959 the G45 was replaced by the G50.
