APE Motorcycles

A Brief History of the Marque

Manufactured in Mondavio, Pesaro, 1923-1925.

A.P.E. was founded in 1923 by Ermanno Agostinelli of San Michele al Fiume, and Luigi Perone of Mondavio. Their first machine was fitted with a Blackburne 350cc engine, and in 1924 light motorcycles were introduced powered by Train two-strokes engines from France.

The firm built motorcycles in sports and tourist configuration which were very similar. They were no longer marketed after 1925, and there are no known surviving examples.

APE is an acronym Agostinelli & Perone. Agostinelli's brother Alessandro became a famous musician, and Perone was a keen photographer who ran the post office in Mondavio.
