Electrociclo

Manufactured by Electrociclos, S.A. 1940 to 1953

Norma Electromotor S.L. was founded in Eibar, Guipuzcoa, for the manufacturing of electric vehicles. It was soon renamed Electrociclos, S.A. and began working with ORBEA y Cia. S.C., to produce an electric motorcycle and two muzzle-loader tricycles.

Those vehicles were presented at a variety of events in the years 1941 to 1946.

Advertising in Madrid and the provinces stated that these electric vehicles were distributed by Electro-Wikal, S.A., a company which also built its own vehicles and converted machines powered by internal combustion engines to electric traction.

Later, due to problems encountered with electric powerplants, Orbea reverted to conventional engines from Iresa and Mosquito.

In the early 1950s production moved to Paseo de Arrate, in Eibar, and Electrociclos S.A. developed a range of electric models including a powered trolley for use in factories, warehouses and parks. Running costs were said to be in the vicinity of 10 cents per kilometer. They were well received and many were produced.

Around 1953 a four-door touring car was mooted, but did not get further than the drawing board. Vehicle production ceased in favour of machine tools and automotive components.
