The Bindy (or Britain Is Not Dead
Yet) was the creation of George Harris, who had been involved with
racing Bantams for many years. In 1979 he built a small two-stroke
with a 125cc engine from Aubrey Upton of Leicester. That engine had first
been designed for kart racing under the Manx name. Harris created
the machine by adding water-cooling to the engine and installing it in
a Jack Machin frame. All the parts were British except for the brakes.
It was competitive in Britain for a couple of seasons, when ridden by Roger Martin, Tony Jones, and Dick
Hunter.
