Piovaticca Motorcycles

A Brief History of the Marque

Manufactured: 1973-75

A firm which made racing two-strokes of 50 to 125cc with disc valves and water cooling.

Piovaticci tasked Jan Thiel and Martin Mijwaart (formerly of Jamathi) with the development of 50cc and 125cc engines, with excellent results. However the considerable costs involved resulted in bankruptcy for Egidio Piovaticci.

Bultaco took up the project, retaining Thiel and Mijwaart. They won four world championships with motorcycles using engines based on the Piovaticca, often referred to as Bultaco Piovaticca.

Multiple World Champion Eugenio Lazzarini raced 50cc and 125cc Piovaticca machines from 1973 to 1976 during his 15 year career. One of these may be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-J0e4uA9Dc
