Jones

1. Jones was a motorcycle produced in 1904.

This was a primitive model powered by a Coronet engine that had been vertically mounted in a diamond frame. Basic in specification, it had belt drive and braced forks.

1904 Jones was a motorcycle. This was a primitive model powered by a Coronet engine that had been vertically mounted in a diamond frame. Basic in specification, it had belt drive and braced forks.

1911 Living at 28 Regent Street, Coventry (age 26 born Dublin), a Motor Engineer. With his widow mother and two sisters. [1]

1912 Spennell's lists them at Smithford St, Coventry (Tel. 664) and manufacturers of motorcycles.[2]

1912 Listed as 'Jones, Gilbert G., motor engineer, Garden Row, Coventry' [3]

1914 Gilbert G. Jones, Motor Engineer, Smithford Street, Coventry.[4]

1919 Listed as engineers

1928 Partnership change. '...the Partnership heretofore subsisting between Gilbert Gordon Jones and George Blackham, carrying on business as Gilbert G. Jones and Company, Engineers, at Garden Row, Smithford Street, has been dissolved as from the seventeenth day of July, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty-Eight. The business will be continued by the said Gilbert Gordon Jones alone...'[2]

2. Jones was a motorcycle produced in 1936 by G. H. Jones, in conjunction with Villiers, as a prototype autocycle.

The engine used was a 98cc, but it differed from other machines in that the pedal shaft ran through the clutch shaft. Although neat in design, this would have given trouble if it was bent as the result of a fall. The engine went on to become the Villiers Junior.

3. Jones by Dennis Jones of Derby

This 250cc twin-cylinder DOHC racer was constructed in 1949. Jones built his own frame and engine, and it was fitted with an Albion gearbox. The machine has been displayed at the Sammy Miller Museum.
