Charleston Motorcycles

Manufactured by Charleston Cycle and Motors, 226 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. 1907.

Built using NSU engines and components.

D. Charleston was an entrant in the Warrnambool to Melbourne motorcycle racing event of August 1903, marque unspecified. He was a prize donor (usually of a Charleston bicycle) for numerous events in the years 1902 to 1911.

The firm vacated their a'Beckett Street premises around March 1912 or earlier, and business appears to have closed..

Mr. Dan. Charleston, cycle manufacturer. of 226 Elizabeth-street, is showing a motor cycle, built of N.S.U. fittings, and engines and eight Charleston cycles. Charlestons have the reputation of being the best built Australian-made cycles, and the fact of every Charleston frame being guaranteed for five years shows the quality of the work put into it. A model, facsimile of the Charleston on which A. J. Clark won the Austral Wheel Race is greatly admired, and several orders have been booked from it. The prices of Charlestons run from £8/10/ to £ 16/10/. and the machines are well worth inspection.
