A Brief History of the Marque

Manufactured from the late 1940s to the mid 1950s at Sully-sur-Loire (Loiret).

Models include:

C.E.M. 20 Standard, Marquet two-stroke 49cc engine
C.E.J. 35 Utilitaire, Standard and Luxe, Le Poulain 49cc
V.M.E.L 22, Villiers two-stroke 98cc
V.50 S Luxe ABG Vap 55 48cc, c.1957

Essor was firmly established as a cycle manufacturer at 68, rue de la République in Puteaux in the 1920s. The owner, Louis Ruffin, transferred the business to a Caen firm and became director of Austral, which used the original Essor premises.
