BBE Motorcycles

A Brief History of the Marque

Berlin-Burger-Eisenwerk AG, Berlin, 1923-1925.

The company entered the market with a 117 cc 1 h.p. motorised bicycle in 1922 built by G. Roth AG of Vienna, with whom they were associated - the two firms had very similar product portfolios in the metal-working industry. The engine, also known under the Geroth brand, is thought to have been built under license to DKW. The Geroth was fitted to machines built by D.S.H. of Austria in 1923.

BBE also built a light motorcycle with an horizontal engine, which had very similar characteristics to the first machine but produced more power.

Berlin-Burger Eisenwerk Aktiengesellschaft failed in early 1925, and the receivers were unable to find buyers for the factories.

N.B. There were other manufacturers using variations of the name B.B. Tragatsch names them BE-BE and refers to them as an "iron-making" company.
