A Brief History of the Marque
Sigurd Gesellschaft mbH Cassel was founded in 1919 and traded until the mid 1970s
The firm marketed mopeds with Sachs 50cc engines from 1954 to 1956. They also marketed motorcycles in the early 1930s, but by 1939 their 56 page catalogue makes no mention of them.
In addition to motorcycles, Sigurd also made (or marketed under their name) cameras, sewing machines, bicycles, tyres, musical instruments, homeware and gramophones.
A 1930s advertisement states Sigurd-Verkaufsstelle Leipzig, celebrating 30 years. Sigurd had retail outlets in at least ten locations in Germany: Bochum, Bremen, Frankfurt am Main, Hannover, Kassel (Cassel), Cologne, Leipzig and Munich.
Sigurd GmbH purchased a controlling interest in Stukenbrok, which advertised a variety of Sigurd products in their mail-order catalogues from the 1930s to the 1950s.
There appears to be no relationship with the Sigurd by Haussherr of Berlin (1902-1912).
