Josep Montpeó was a motorcycle importer with workshops on Carrer Pallars, Barcelona, who, in addition retailing motorcycles and bicycles, built limited numbers of motorcycles between 1912 and 1929, and sidecars from the early 1920s on. OTTW suggests that Montpeó imported motorcycles from the same foreign manufacturers whose bicycles he sold, and rebranded them with minor modifications.
The firm also built frames for other manufacturers including Alpha, Carbonell and Simó.
A 1920s advert reads:
"Fábrica de bicletas, motocicletas, side-cars, ruedas
metálicas para automóviles
y aviación, carretes para
side-cars y aviación, etc."
Factory of bicycles, motorcycles, sidecars, metal wheels for automobiles and aviation, chassis for sidecars and aviation, etc.
The family returned to the motorcycle trade in the post-war years when a grandson created the Orix brand.
