Maico had announced a new 125cc road bike, the MD125, at the 1966 Cologne Show which would form the basis for an over the counter racer and their own works 125. Prototypes were run during 1967-68 with production machines, typed RS125 becoming available at the beginning of 1969. The new machine had a duplex full cradle frame equipped with Ceriani forks and a swinging arm rear end. A Maico twin leading shoe front brake was complimented by single leading shoe rear. The air cooled 125cc single cylinder two stroke produced a claimed 21 bhp and featured rotary valve induction and was built in unit with a six speed gearbox. The new model quickly proved itself with Kent Anderson taking fourth place in the 1969 125 World Championship.

This example is believed to be one of two imported into this country and is offered with the original sales invoice giving its cost as £500 new when sold by the Bolton Motorcycle Company during June 1969. It is offered in complete, fair cosmetic condition but has not been run for a number of years. Photographs and documentation supplied with the machine indicate that it was ridden by Tommy Robb to 5th place in the 1970 TT and finished second to Barry Sheene at the 1971 Oulton Park Gold Cup with the then owner in the saddle. A spare engine is available for this historic motorcycle by private negotiation.
