One of the first businesses in Rockhampton to cater for the sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles, Howard & Co were to establish branches in Brisbane and throughout Queensland to become one of the major automotive dealers and suppliers in the state in the period of 1920-1950.
Fritz Sofus Kristian Skov and John Campbell from Glasgow arrived in 1895
and established a business building Local cycles and motorcycles until about 1906. Skov left Local in 1910 to head the motorcycle
department of the Howard Motor & Cycle Co.
A Howard motorcycle was entered in a Queensland motorcycle race in 1907.
The firm hold some very valuable agencies, and are the sole Queensland representatives
for Swift, Rover, and De Dion motor-cars, Rover cycles, and Triumph motor-cycles, while they
also manufacture Howard cycles and motor-cycles. This whole business, as a going concern, is to
be acquired by the newly-formed company, including machinery, plant, office furniture, book
debts, contracts, stock and sundries.
