The business evolved from Hall and Warden of Swanson Street who built Eureka motorcycles.
The firm built King 1¾ and 2¼ hp single-cylinder engines from from 1910 until about 1914, most of which were used in their own motorcycles. However, some were supplied to other manufacturers including (possibly) A.N.A.
A light four-stroke advertised for £35 with the slogan "The King is the Monarch of All" in 1911.
Melbourne Motor Transit & Touring Co., of 115 Elizabeth St Melbourne is listed as the sole distributor.
A similar advertisement to that pictured gives different details:
The 1913 image is captioned "A. Mephan, on his 4 h.p. The King, winner of the one Mile Track Race and Five Miles Handicap, who also secured the prize for the One Mile Track Record, at the Auckland Motor Cycling Club's sports."
