R.J. (Reg) Dean of Dean's Motor Garage in Breadalbane, Launceston built Sunlight motorcycles, and possibly one or more branded Dean-Abingdon.
Whilst working at his motor establish ment at Breadalbane yesterday Mr. Dean was the victim of a serious accident. He was engaged bending a piece of tubing, when it burst, throwing the red-hot sand into his face. It is the practice to fill the tubing with sand, so that it cannot become dented after being heated, and when pressure is applied to bend it. It was when this operation was in progress that Mr. Dean was hurt. He was brought to Launceston and attended by Dr. Clemons. As far as could be learned last evening, he was severely burned about the face. His eyes are also affected, but it is not yet known whether his sight will be impaired.

THE SINKING OF THE ARABIA
A TASMANIAN'S EXPERIENCE..
Mr. R J. Dean, of Breadalbane, who went to England to Vickers, Maxim, and Co., to to help in munitions-making, was on board the R.M.S. Arabia when she was sunk in the Mediterranean. In an interesting letter he describes the episode:-
It was on the morning of November 6, at 11.10, that our ship, the Arabia, was torpedoed...
It was about 1 p.m. on Thursday when we arrived at Malta. We were then taken on board a hospital ship, which was "home, sweet home" to us. They were all so kind, and we were sorry to leave them.
