Glencairn Motor and Cycle Co

of Wandsworth

Glencairn were motorcycles produced in 1902-1903.

There is little information on this make and few are thought to have been built. They were assembled from bought-in parts and probably based on a standard heavy-duty gents' bicycle. The engine would have been extremely basic and either imported or bought from a firm in the Midlands. It was reputedly built for export, but there is no indication as to whether this was for the European market or elsewhere.

22. The Glencairn Motor and Cycle Co., Wandsworth, have a specially designed motor-bicycle on view that is designed for the South African market. It has a 1¾ horse-power motor, and this is fitted with the F.N. spray carburetter. Other features are the Glencairn belt, valve lifter, special front wheel rim brake, New Departure back-pedalling hub brake, B.S.A. cycle fittings, and Clincher tyres. This machine sells at £35, and looks remarkably good value.
