Italian Motorcycles

SAR Motorcycles

Manufactured: 1921-1925

Motorcycles produced by the Società Reggiana Motocicli of Reggio Emilia, near Modena, and made in two versions: the 500cc Sport model with a horizontally opposed OHV twin with magneto ignition, and the Turismo model which was much the same as the Sport but with a sidevalve, both engines from Elect by Ladetto.

The sports model was advertised in Auto Moto Ciclo in 1922 with the caption "The fastest of mass-produced machines", and it must certainly have been a good performer given that the Angelo Blatto used it to race in Monza in the Nations GP of that year.

In 1924, OHV oil-cooled Bradshaw 350cc singles and 500cc twins were built, the larger advertised as capable of 150 km/h. The following year they returned to the Italian HO twins. The company experienced difficulties and in 1925 the Ladetto brothers of Turin became involved. It appears that they bought the company, and the SAR name disappeared.
