Fred Cochran established Castle Cycle Works in 1899 at 156 Chapel Street, Windsor, Melbourne, as a bicycle repairer and manufacturer. The firm's first motorcycles appeared in 1912, powered by 3½ hp Precision engines. It is likely that these were rebadged Healing machines.
In 1915 a prototype was built using a V-twin MAG engine and various Healing components, along with Chochran's patented rear suspension of a style which many decades later was commonly referred to as "swinging-arm".
Following the armistice there is reference to a Castle with a De Luxe engine. The company address at that time was given as 148 Peel Street, Windsor.
