Betty and Nancy Debenham, with their dog, Poncho, were keen motorcyclists. Nancy won a Gold Medal at Brooklands in 1926.

When WWI began in 1914 the company formed a partnership with Vickers to build under contract to the British Army the Vickers-Clyno, a motorcycle sidecar combination with a machine gun.
Clyno was one of the largest carriage manufacturers in the British Isles after the First World War.
