Honda dealer Christian de Vilaseca built endurance racers based on the Honda CB750. The engine size was increased to 950cc, and Dresda frames were employed.

In 1969 Vilaseca entered a CB750 in the B'ol d'Or, ridden by Michel Rougerie and Daniel Urdich. They won.

Japauto won the B'ol d'Or in 1972 (Gérard Debrock & Roger Ruiz), and again in 1973 (Gérard Debrock & Thierry Tchernine). A 5th place was gained in 1974.

Faired road-going versions appeared designated 950SS and 950SS II, and the unfaired 1000 VX Quatre was released in 1976. Japauto components were popular with other specials builders, for instance Fritz Egli.

At the time, Vilaseca's Japauto company was the largest Honda dealer in Europe.
