Richard Wylde

Mountaineer were motorcycles produced from 1920 to 1924, by Richard Wylde of Marsden, Yorkshire. There was no connection with the earlier make of the same name built in Baker Street, London.

  • 1920 These machines were made by a small producer who did not appear at the big shows or on the lists and he entered the market with one basic model, powered by his own 269cc two-stroke engine, offered in two forms of transmission.
  • 1921 A Sturmey-Archer gearbox was an option, as was a two-speed racing model.
  • 1922-1923 Those options disappeared and it was back to the original machines.
  • 1924 A three-speed Albion gearbox was a further option. It was the final year of production.
