The Stanley Engineering Co. Ltd.
17 The Avenue, Egham, Surrey.
Formerly named Argson Engineering, the company was renamed in 1926.
In 1932, based on a stock tricycle, the machine was fitted with a 98cc Villiers engine, hung from the rear axle and with spur gears to drive the clutch and a differential.
In 1948 they began to receive many orders from the British Government, the British Red Cross and others, and by 1954 they had 140 employees. That year the business was acquired by Harper Engineering of Exeter, Devon.
From 1954 to 1965 the firm built three-wheeled microcars.

In 2003 all government supplied three-wheelers were banned from public roads due to safety concerns. Those still in use were recalled and hundreds were destroyed.

Bonjour,
I found this photo in amongst some old postcards passed down from my grandmother. My grandfather who was wounded in WWI may have been in contact with Stanley Engineering for a tricycle, but I have no information on that.
Regards
Bob Lipscombe
