A Brief History of the Marque
Achilles Czechoslovakia
A. Schneider & Co., Fahrrad & Motorfahrzeugenfabrik, Ober-Politz a.d. Nordbahn
Achilles motorcycles were built in Czechoslovakia (then part of Austro-Hungaria) between 1906 & 1912 1, and employed engines from Fafnir and Zeus2.
Motorcycle production resumed in 1920 following the Armistice with Schneider's son-in-law Ernst Weikert at the helm, and continued until the eve of the Second World War.
Ernst emigrated to West Germany immediately after the war and formed Achilles Germany in Wilhelmshafen-Langewerth. The factory was destroyed by fire in 1948.
Notes
1. An image in the gallery is dated 1901. Bicycle construction began around 1896, and motorcycles were built 1906-1912, and c.1920 to 1939.
2. Zeus engines were produced by Linser
