Moto Bimm Motorcycles

A Brief History of the Marque

Established in Montemurlo (near Florence) by Josè Becocci, motorcycles and mopeds were produced from 1965 to 1980

The firm had a close relationship with the Gori brothers (Moto Gori) and models were sold as Gori-Bimm.
Advertised as both Bimm and MotoBimm, the firm produced MX and road machines from 50cc to 125 cc, some of which had Minarelli engines. The marque won the 50cc Italian Championship in 1971 with riders Franco Ravagli and Giorgio Paci. By 1976, the firm was producing 20,000 machines annually, but the following year was bad. Very bad. A serious extortion threat saw 3kg of TNT placed outside the front door of the factory. This, and increasing competition from the larger companies, led to decline in the motorcycle business. The company revived later in the 80s when it turned to bicycle production and is associated with the name Bartali. Now run by Riccardo Becocci, the son of the founder, the firm is very close-knit - as of 2011 five of the members had been there for 40 years. Motorcycling runs in the family - Josè's brother Andrea founded AIM.

In 1979 the firm changed its name to Bimotor.

Models included:
Motobimm Billo moped (Minarelli V1)
1971 50 Cross P/4

Notes: Some components were from Nino Verlicchi.
