Omega Motor Cycle Co.

Mr. S. Dorsett, and Mr. R. S. Roberts built the Omega at their St. James' Square factory in Wolverhampton. It had a 1.5 h.p. engine horizontally mounted in a bicycle-style frame, with bicycle pedals and running gear.

The Omega was exhibited at the 1909 Stanley Show.

S. Dorsett was later associated with both Orbit and Diamond, also of Wolverhampton.

Omega lady's and Gentleman's model lightweights. The engine is horizontal, and the transmission is by gear and chain.

A few days ago one of the partners of the Omega Motor Cycle Co., Wolverhampton, Mr. H. Summerhill James, kindly lent us an Omega motor bicycle for a short ride. Two of these machines were entered for the Quarterly Trials on Wednesday. For the benefit of those of our readers who did not see this machine at the last Stanley Show - or the illustration and description of it which appeared in our show report, we would point out that the machine closely resembles a pedal bicycle, the crank case of the engine occupying the usual position of the bottom bracket. Through the centre of the hollow engine crankshaft is fitted an axle on which are cranks and pedals for starting and assisting the machine up steep hills. The reduction in gear is effected by means of an epicyclic train, the drive from the motor to the rear wheel being by chain, which is enclosed in a metal case. There is also a friction clutch contained in the crank case, which is operated by means of a lever on the handle-bar. The cylinder is horizontal, the carburetter is in front of the cylinder, and the magneto, which is gear driven, is mounted on the crank case casting. The petrol tank is behind the seat tube, and the oil tank and pump behind the steering socket tube. Two brakes are fitted, one a front rim brake, the other a back-pedalling band brake.
