New Hudson Motorcycles 1911

NEW HUDSON, No. 61. 3½ h.p. Model. : 85 x 85 mm.; m.o.i.v.; Bosch magneto; B. and B. carburetter, h.b.c.; single gear; 2¼in. Dunlop N.S. tyres; belt transmission.

New Hudson Cycle Co., Ltd., Summer Hill Street Works, Birmingham.

Three models of the New Hudson motor cycles are being shown on this stand, viz., the lightweight, 70x76 mm., with three-speed gear, or with single gears ; and also the new 3½ h.p. standard touring model. The first two machines have already been fully described in The Motor Cycle, and as shown we are only able to notice one small improvement, viz., the fitting of an aluminium mud shield over the chain wheel on the back hub. The 3½ h.p. machine is designed on standard lines, and is fitted with a J.A.P.-New Hudson engine carried in the usual position. The silencer is fitted with a foot cut-out, and a Bosch magneto carried forward of the engine is provided with a patent leather detachable case. The tank, which is painted in two shades of brown, is neatly fitted into the dropped frame, and is of sensible capacity. The front forks are of the Druid pattern, and are fitted with the usual rim brake.

A novel note is struck by the use of leather pads on the pedals, and the machine is throughout a well considered and practical design which will doubtless be seen on the road in considerable numbers next year.

A decided novelty will be shown on this stand in light weight machines with 2 H.P. free engine and 3-speed gear, catalogued at 45 guineas. The makers claim for this machine that it is a light-weight with all the efficiency of the heavy-weight, and that it is capable of going anywhere under any conditions.

The intention is to make this the model de Luxe of light-weights, therefore the very highest quality fitments will be employed - Brooks best saddle, Dunlop non-skid tyres, together with the most luxurious finish and equipment possible. The same machine will also be catalogued without 3-speed gear and free engine at 35 guineas. A third machine will be shown of the New Hudson 3 1/2 H.P., possessing all the same high-class fitments and finish, and retailing at 48 guineas.
