Werner Specifications 1899

Purpose built frame, wheels and forks.

Engine: Werner Frères, De Dion-Bouton type, 62mm bore, 72mm stroke, 217cc.

Piston: cast Iron, two rings.

Valves: automatic inlet valve, mechanical exhaust side valve, (inlet over exhaust)

Lubrication by large oil cup and wick over front crankcase, replenished every 15 miles.

Carburettor: Surface type built into front of tank 0.680 Specific Gravity fuel.

Ignition: De Dion HT coil with initially wet cell accumulator or dry battery, De Dion notched cam with trembler blade make-and-break, (later wipe contact with trembler coil).

Brakes: one rear leather faced band brake to rear hub.

Drive was by twisted raw hide belt to a round section pulley and belt rim, no gears, no lights, or provision for lights.

Measured brief top speed 43mph.

Comfortable speed 25 to 30mph.

All bearings were bronze.

Tyre size: 650×50 metric.
