Alex Criville

Born in Barcelona on March 4th, 1970, Àlex Crivillé Tapias became the first Spaniard to win the 500cc World Championship. He began racing in 1985 at the age of 14, having falsified his age. That year he won the Criterium Solo Moto on a 75cc Honda. He raced with Derbi in the 80cc World Championship in 1987 and '88, and having moved to JJ CobasIn 1990 he joined the Giacomo Agostini team racing 250cc Yamahas, without success, then moved back to J.J. Cobas. In 1992 he joined the Sito Pons team riding Honda before joining the Factory Honda team. And thus began his string of victories in the 500cc class.

Criville, aged thirty two, announced his retirement from the sport on May 5, 2002.
