This 1930 R8 had undergone an earlier restoration and was refreshed with a cylinder head overhaul (new valves, guides and seats), refurbished carburettor and a reconditioned gearbox before being acquired for the NZ Classic Motorcycles collection in April, 2008, from a private vendor in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, via a UK auction at the Staffordshire County Showgrounds.

The machine features matching numbers and, complete with an example of AJS's own Zeppelin-style Type RD23 sidecar, it received a Gold Award at the 2007 VMCC Banbury Run. It was offered with an original owner's handbook, an AJS Lightweight Sidecar Chassis and Bodies parts catalogue, an old-style log book, its UK V5 Registration Certificate and several MOT Certificates from 1982 through to 2007.
