Laverda OR 600 Atlas

1985 OR 600 Atlas

Laverda had a lot of input in the design of the extremely successful BMW G/S series so it was no surprise to see their own entry into the large capacity on/off road market with the introduction of the OR600 Atlas in 1986. The updated version of their 500 twin (which had been out of production for several years) featured a capacity of 571cc, lower compression and less radical cam shafts. In addition strengthened crankcases, helical primary drive gears, a second balance weight and most importantly an oil cooler & larger oil pump were also used. 300 were built in 1986 but subsequent years saw only 60, 40 & 50 produced, for a total of 450 units. Series 2 models were produced in '87 & '88, with Series 3 presented in '89. These were red & white and had twin, side mounted oil coolers.

The 1985 prototype was extensively ridden by Laverda's sales director, Giulio Frazan. 50hp at 7,000rpm. Top speed 175kph.
