Scrambler 250cc and 350cc
Year of presentation : 1970
Years of manufacture : 1972-1976
Engine : 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled - bore x stroke 74 x 57.8 mm - total displacement 248.5 cc - compression ratio 9:1 - overhead camshaft, two valves in the cylinder head - wet sump with pump - Amal 627/27 carburettor - multi-disc wet clutch - 5-speed gearbox - primary drive by gears - secondary drive by chain. This model features the new "wide" crankcase which had a greater oil capacity and the possibility of including a fifth gear.
Chassis : tubular steel frame - telescopic hydraulic front fork - swingarm rear fork with 2 hydraulic shock absorbers - 180 mm drum front brake - 160 mm drum rear brake - tyres: 3.25 x 18" front, 4.00 x 18" rear.
Electrical system: The lighting is battery-powered, and the battery is recharged by a MOTOPLAT alternator flywheel through a rectifier. The batterydry-charged(6V, 16 Ah) is recharged by the magneto flywheel and the rectifier to power the parking lights (city lights and taillights) when the engine is off.
Dimensions: wheelbase 1370 mm - dry weight 135 kg - fuel tank 11 litres.
Performance : 25 hp at 7000 rpm - maximum speed 130 km/h in normal position - fuel consumption 3 litres/100 km.
Colour scheme: metallic yellow paint for the mudguard and tank, chrome for the headlight and tank panels, and black for the frame and swingarm. It also features a zippered leather tool bag on the left side and a round air filter on the right.
The 350cc model replaced the 250cc model in December 1973, and although aesthetically similar, the piston bore and stroke were 76 x 75 mm, the carburettor was 30 mm, and power was 4 hp higher; it also changed colour: instead of yellow, it was blue. The 450cc model was not sold in Spain.
Clarification note: The new wide crankcase is easily distinguished from the old narrow crankcase by a very simple aesthetic detail: the clutch lever protrudes from the outside of the right side of the crankcase, whereas in the old model, the sleeve fits snugly against the crankcase and the lever is hidden. This necessitates removing the selector cover to replace the cable in case of breakage.
