Monet & Goyon 250cc Type M3, ML3

Unit construction single-cylinder four stroke engine built by Monet-Goyon, three-speed gearbox - Gurtner carburettor, magneto ignition, tubular frame - parallelogram forks, rigid rear.
The letter L denotes Light, these models having for instance a narrower front guard and less ornate silencer. L versions were generally less expensive.
In 1933 the M3 was renamed ML2.

Monet & Goyon 350cc type ML4 1933, M4 1933-1936

Single-cylinder side-valve 350cc Monet-Goyon unit-construction engine with three-speed gearbox, with Gurtner carburettor and magneto ignition. Saddle tank of 10 litres capacity, tubular frame with parallelogram forks which had a large tyre pump mounted on the left, rigid rear end. Aluminium fishtail muffler. The M4 valanced mudguards and more chrome than the ML4.

Wheels and tyres: 26 x 3.50 front and rear.

The M4A was tested by the military in 1933, but a contract with the armed forces was not forthcoming. The similar L4A was later accepted.


1934-1935 L4

Monet-Goyon single-cylinder 350cc sidevalve engine with separate 3-speed type DD gearbox, Amac or Gurtner carburettor. The exhaust muffler was of cylindrical styling, rising from below the gearbox on the left side at an angle of roughly 20 degrees.

Maximum speed: 95 km/h.

Options included enamel paint schemes, chromed tank and guards and stainless spokes.


1936-1942 L4

Monet-Goyon single-cylinder 350cc sidevalve engine with separate 3-speed gearbox, Amac or Gurtner carburettor.

TYPE ALS 5, nouveau moteur, culbuteurs à grand rendement, 2 échappements, soupapes en tête à 80°; cylindre et culasse fonte au chrome à e à 80°; cylindre et culasse fonte au chrome à larges ailettes. Piston eu alliage spécial. Vilebrequin monté sur double rangée de galets. Portées de roulements montées sur aiguilles. Basculeurs sur rouleaux. Cadre et fourche en tubes de grosses dimensions, raccords brasés avec attaches prévues pour side-car -TYPE «CHAMPION DE FRANCE ». Freins de grande puissance, réservoir festonné d'une contenance de 16 litres: porte-bagages démontable. Pneus de 26×3,25 ou, sur demande, 26×3,50. THE 3 HP 4-STROKE ENGINE, OVERHEAD VALVES

TYPE ALS 3 250cc engine, 80° overhead valves, hemispherical cylinder head high efficiency, special cast iron cylinder and cylinder head with large fins, piston made of high-silicon alloy with a low coefficient of expansion. Large crankshaft on ball and needle bearings. Large forged steel flywheel. Angled carburetor. Single-pipe exhaust. - 3-speed gearbox. - 26x3.25 tyres. - Rearview mirror. Oil circulation lubrication, dry sump. Clip-on springs.

Optional extra for alternator or dynamo headlights.


THE 4 HP, 4-STROKE ENGINE, OVERHEAD VALVES

TYPE ALS 4 new rocker arm engine, 2 exhaust ports, overhead valves at 80° High-efficiency hemispherical cylinder head. Chrome cast iron cylinder and cylinder head with wide fins. High-silicon alloy piston with a very low coefficient of expansion.

Large crankshaft on ball and needle bearings. Forged steel flywheel internal. Frame with very flexible fork, specially designed for unparalleled stability and road holding. 26×3.25 tyres or, on request, 26×3.50. Rearview mirror. On request, at an additional cost, electric lighting by dual-flow dynamo, batteries, large diameter headlight, ammeter, electric horn, license plate light or electric lighting by alternator.

Oil circulation lubrication, dry sump.

TYPE PLS 4 3-speed, lightweight model for solo use.

THE 5 HP 500 CMC TOURING - SPORT

TYPE ALS 5. New engine, high-efficiency rocker arms, 2 exhausts, 80° overhead valves; chrome cast iron cylinder and cylinder head with 80°; chrome cast iron cylinder and cylinder head with wide fins.

Special alloy piston. Crankshaft mounted on a double row of rollers. Bearing journals mounted on needle bearings. Rocker arms on rollers. Frame and forks made of large diameter tubing, brazed joints with sidecar mounts - TYPE "FRENCH CHAMPION". High-power brakes, scalloped fuel tank with a 16-litre capacity: removable luggage rack. 26×3.25 tyres or, on request, 26×3.50. 4-speed gearbox with foot shifter or, on request, frame-mounted controls. Rearview mirror.

Options on request: electric lighting via dual-flow dynamo, battery. Aerodynamic headlight, ammeter, electric horn, code plate. Lubrication: oil circulation, dry sump.

Inclined 350cc OHV engine dry sump with separate four-speed LSS type gearbox, dual exhaust ports, dry sump, parallelogram forks in rigid frame. The ALS4SA Champion de France has rear suspension.


1935 L4A

1935 Monet & Goyon 350cc type L4A Militaire

Single-cylinder 350cc sidevalve engine with separate 4-speed gearbox, Gurtner carburettor, magneto ignition.

Parallelogram forks in rigid frame, sidecar mounts.

The French military ordered 1500 units.


1935-1938 L5

Monet & Goyon 500cc type L5 Lateral Tourism and L5P, 1935 to 1938. (Koehler-Escoffier KL5L)

487 cc single cylinder SV Monet-Goyon engine with separate 3 speed gearbox (4-speed gearbox on type LSS), Gurtner carburettor, rigid tubular frame with parallelogram fork. Sculptured 16 litre fuel tank, 180 mm drum brakes, 26/3.50 tyres.

Weight 140kg, max speed 100 km/h.

Optional rear suspension on Luxe version.


1935-1938 LS5

1935 LS5S

The LS5S had a 487ccc Monet-Goyon OHV engine with a separate foot-operated four-speed gearbox

Suspension by parallelogram forks with plunger style at rear.

Tyres: 26/3.25

Max speed 130-135 km/h.


1936-1939 ALS5

Monet & Goyon 500cc type ALS5 1936-1939

The ALS5 had a 487ccc Monet-Goyon OHV engine with a separate foot-operated gearbox. It weighed 150kg and some versions could attain 135 km/h.

From 1937 the Luxe version had plunger rear suspension and was deemed the ALS5SA Champion de France (SA denotes rear suspension).


1936-1940 L5A

Monet & Goyon 500cc Militaire types L5A 1936, L5A1 1939, L5A2 1940

The L5A had a 487cc single-cylinder side-valve engine and separate 4-speed gearbox with hand-change on the tank, and was equipped with a Morel magneto. The rigid tubular frame had parallelogram forks, 350 x 19 or 26 x 3.50 tyres and a fuel tank of 15 litres capacity.

It was available with Bernardet or Monet-Goyon sidecar.

Some 1600 of these were delivered to the French military, in various guises Around 500 solo L5A1 motorcycles were delivered between March and May 1940, and approximately 300 L5A1 sidecar combinations were also produced.

The L5A1 was also sold as a 4-speed civilian version during the occupation. After the war, the Gendarmerie also received L5A1 solos. It is unclear whether these were new or war-surplus. The French Army continued to use the L5A1 into the 1950s.

The L5A2 was not mass-produced.
