Dingo Cross 49cc
In 1966 a journalist by the name of Roberto Patrignani (Florence 1935 - Milan 2008) rode one of these over 7,500 kilometres across the heart of Africa from Cape Town to Asmara, the capital of Eritrea. Truly an adventurer, he also rode a Vespa from Milan to Tokyo.
Designed by the acclaimed Antonio Micucci, the Dingo was produced in a variety of forms - mopeds, lightweight roadsters, sports and offroad - and some 160,000 of them were built.
The Cross, presented at the 1965 Milan Show, initially had a three-speed gearbox (four-speed in 1967) with a clutch pedal and 17in studded tyres.
A new version (the last) appeared in 1970 with an 8 litre tank, 28mm forks and Fulgor rear suspension units.
Dingo 50 MM
MM = MonoMarcia (automatic). Produced from 1968 to 1971, specifications are much the same as the 3V/3M, other than the centrifugal clutch mounted on the left side of the engine and it lacks a kick-starter - pedal start only. The Dingo 3V and MM were step-through mopeds designed to appeal to the fairer sex. Initially produced with a pressed metal frame, they switched to tubular frames in 1971. Max speed was around 45 km/h.
