The building has a long history and was previously Tom Byrne's workshop. Tom Byrne was a BMW dealer in Wentworth Avenue for many decades.

Sydney Motorcycle Wreckers was founded in Liverpool by two speedway riders, and established a branch in Goulburn St in about 1980, moving to 69 Wentworth Ave around 1981. SMW moved to the Tom Byrnes site around 1998.
