A Brief History of the Italian Firm
Ricciotti Paioli (1891-1956) established a store in Bologna in 1911 selling bicycle parts, and in the years following began manufacturing a range of components and accessories until September 1943 when his business was destroyed by allied bombing.
During the recovery he handed control of the firm to his daughters Laura and Loredana, who had run the Società Sorelle Paioli since 1945. The business, which by 1954 had 60 employees, expanded to include motorcycle components. The sisters divided the company in 1962, with one taking the sporting goods sector and the other sister Laura and her husband Attilio Gnudi establishing Paioli Meccanica, renamed Paioli SpA in 1963.
In 1967 a new factory was opened in Bologna which began manufacturing hydraulic front forks in 1972, soon followed by rear shock absorbers and a variety of other motorcycle components. Their market expanded considerably, and their forks in particular were highly regarded. Clients included Yamaha and Kayaba.
Known as Paioli Components since 2008, the company ceased production at the end of 2013.
